Kit or MRSMRGC as I used to call her, was my ninth and 11th grade English teacher at the Winsor school in Boston where she taught for several years while her husband was at Harvard in the 60's. I was slower than most with some learning differences and she picked up that something was not right and helped me so much to push on and find ways to cope. Maybe I was one of her first guinea pigs that started her on a journey working with dyslexic kids?
I still have letters she wrote to me in the summers, treating me like an equal, sharing her news, ideas of good books to read, and encouragement.
We had kilts of the same tartan, old fashioned McDonald I think, and I was always glad when we happened to have our twin kilts on on the same day at school.
She was an anchor for me in a lonely preppy world.
Thanks Kit for your care. Wish I had had a chance to say good-bye. God's blessings,to Nathaniel and family! Nan

I can picture Kit seated across from me in the seminar room at West House. It was my first class in clinical psychology. After she introduced herself, I thought " So this is what a Bryn Mawr undergraduate becomes." I admired Kit almost instantly for her brilliance, poise and generosity in sharing what she had learned in her work with dyslexic children. Later, she assisted me with research for my doctoral thesis.
We were also briefly neighbors in Swarthmore and attended social events hosted by Bryn Mawrters. I was further impressed by Kit's wide range of interests, her growing national reputation as a reading expert and her love of family.
I was especially pleased that her leadership of the Child Study Institute and her teaching carried forth continuity and innovation to further generations associated with Bryn Mawr.
My deepest sympathy to Kit's family and friends.
