Lauren Housley Obituary

HOUSLEY LAUREN MARIE (nee POPOLI) Age 41, passed away November 10, 2025, after a 2 1/2 year battle with oral cancer. Lauren was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Blue Bell, PA. She was educated in the Wissahickon School District and graduated from high school in 2002. School activities included chorale, the jazz band, musical theater, and composing poetry for the literary magazine. She was a member of the National Honor Society and earned awards in French and choral music. After earning an Environmental Science degree from Bucknell University (magna cum laude), Lauren was employed locally at URS in Fort Washington, PA before enrolling in Baylor University for an advanced degree. She graduated with a master's degree in biology with a specialization in entomology. Following graduation from Baylor she worked as a freshwater stream ecologist for the state of North Carolina. Her most recent position was as an environmental scientist at the EPA in Washington, DC. At the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, Lauren began playing handbells. She continued this interest at Bucknell, as a member of the Rooke Chapel Ringers. After her move to Raleigh, NC, she was accepted into the Raleigh Ringers, the premier handbell choir in the country. She played for 5 years, enjoying the concerts, recording sessions and the bi-annual tours. Lauren was a prodigious knitter and weaver who created and sold original knitting patterns. During her illness, Lauren moderated online support groups for others with head and neck cancer. Lauren is survived by her husband Kyle, parents Albert "Skip" Popoli and Janet Rush, brother Alan (Erin), sister Carolyn (Tiago), nephews Soren and Leto, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was interred at Cool Springs Natural Cemetery, Berryville, VA on Nov. 12, 2025. Donations in her memory may be made to Lauren & Kyle's home parish, St. Gregory the Great, in Silver Springs, MD, https://www.stgregoryoc.org.
