MARTIN CORR Obituary

CORR

MARTIN J., of Doylestown, died suddenly at his summer home in Sea Isle City NJ, on July 28, 2014. He was 77.
Mert was the cherished husband of Mary Lee Rothwell Corr. They were married for 52 years. Born in Philadelphia, Mert was the son of the late John A. and Helen Fallon Corr.
Mert graduated from Holy Cross, Saint Joseph's Prep '54, Saint Joseph's College ('58, Golden Hawk) and Temple University School of Law (LLb '61; LLM Trial Advocacy '94). He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1962-1966. In 2010 St. Joe's honored him with the GEM Award in recognition of great loyalty to the university and selfless work for the good of others in the field of law.
Mert's many interests included performing with the State Street Players, OLMC choir, golf (DCC), hunting and fishing. He was a bridge player, gardener, he loved his Brittany Spaniels and never missed a daily crossword puzzle. He was a Eucharistic Minister for many years and served on the parish council.
He was a past president of the Bucks County Bar Association, where he was a friend and mentor to many while holding a reputation as one of the tough-est trial lawyers in the county.
Mert was currently serving as president of the Doylestown Borough Planning Commission. He was a former committeeman and executive committeeman of the Bucks County Republican Committee. His involvement in the community ran deep and touched many lives.
In addition to his wife, partner and lifelong best friend Mary Lee, he is survived by his children, Sean Corr (Jennifer), Marguerite Quinn (John), Molly Duet (Keith), and Beth Ann Corr DeStefano (Keith) and grandchildren, Liz, Pat, Chris, Maggie, Carolyn, Maeve, Lucy, Martin, Mary, Will, Ayla, Ronan, Brendan and one step-great grandchild, Linley. He is also survived by his siblings, Paul (Mary), Grace, Gerry (Kristina), Ann (Torr), Jeanne (Tom), and Joseph (Janet). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

I just learned of the death of Mert. My sympathy goes out to his entire family. Mert was a classmate of mine at the Prep and the College. He was always a real gentleman,an honorable man. I was blessed just to have known him.

Dear Mary Lee and family,
Elaine and I cannot attend any of the services for Mert. We are so saddened but remember the times that go back to West Oak Lane and St.Athanasius, then to the Prep and the College. You and Mert were always part of our background.

Mary Lee and Family,
We are shocked and saddened to learn of Mert's passing. He was the best neighbor..his smiling face and warm welcomes will be missed. Peace to you and your family.

Dear Corr family.
Mert graduated three months before Joe and I entered the Prep, so I never had the chance to meet him.
I feel sad anyway, because if Mert was anything like Joe, he must have been a wonderful fellow. What I mean is, I have observed Joe since we were students beginning in the Fall of 1954. That is a long time, and I have been privileged to think of myself as his friend.
Joe was a great student and a great athlete. Also a faithful supporter of the Prep, and everlastingly cheerful at reunion events. There has to be a positive and flattering familial comparison to Mert.
So, once again, this is just too awful, and I am sorry.
I am sure the whole family will help Mary Lee land on her feet.
As Pete Seeger sang at the end of the song, "Talking Union", about poorly treated miners, "what I mean, you'll win, take it easy, but take it".

I was so sorry to hear of Mert's passing. My deepest sympathies to all of you. While I haven't seen Mert in many years, I will never forget him. Thirty plus years ago, he gave a law student from upstate New York research to do, continued that after I graduated and until I had my first position. He taught me much and was very helpful to me as a started out in my career. He was a wonderful person.

Dear Mary Lee,
I was so happy to be with you and Mert last summer down in Sea Isle at our 25th reunion. He was so great to be with. He is now enjoying "the big party" with Gerry and all those "Preppers in heaven. Distance keeps me from attending the funeral on Friday, but know for sure I am with you in spirit. May God bless you and your family.
