Mary Longley Obituary
MARY ELLEN, age 77, of Paoli, died Tuesday June 6, 2006 at her residence. Mary Ellen (nee Turnbull), daughter of Foster and Bertha, was born on June 7, 1929 in Buffalo, New York. She was raised in Buffalo and then graduated from Cornell University. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Mary Ellen was married on Dec. 1, 1951 to F. Alan Longley, Jr. (now deceased) of Syracuse, New York. While living in Syracuse she had her five children. Mary Ellen lived in Darien, CT and Golden, CO before moving to Paoli. Mary Ellen loved being with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and genealogist. Mary Ellen was a true mother a wellspring of love, faith, peace, and knowledge. She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Keller of Golden, CO and Marion Bramble of Cato, NY, as well four of her children, Linda Longley Featherman (Tad) of Gladwyne, PA, Dr. Deborah Longley of St, Paul MN, F. Alan Longley III (Alice) of Short Hills, NJ, Bruce F. Longley (Kathy) of Manhattan, and her nine grandchildren: Jonathan, Andrew and Clifford Longley, John, James and Peter Wood, Baker and Emily Featherman, and Duncan Longley. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to The Myelodysplastic Syndromes Foundation, P.O. Box 353, Crosswicks, NJ, 08515 or on line at www.mds-foundation.org; or Surrey Services for Seniors, 28 Bridge Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312.
Memorial Service is at the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr (Pennswood & New Gulph Roads) on Friday, June 16th at 9:30 A.M., with a Visitation to follow at 10:15 A.M. until 11:15 A.M. Reception following the Visitation.

I had the privilege of getting to know Mary Ellen during her frequent visits with her daughter, Debbie, and the grandsons, in St. Paul, MN. She was so gracious, interesting to talk with, kind, intelligent, well read, and curious about people and the world. I always enjoyed spending time with Mary Ellen and will miss her visits to St. Paul.

It was a long time ago that Mary Ellen and other young mothers exchanged recipes for bringing up children and putting food on the table. She was always well read and interesting as well as fun to be with and a darn good bridge player. I look back on that as a happy time and will remember her that way.

Mary Ellen Longley was a friend for seventy years. She was a good sweet lady and loved by her whole family and her friends. Even though we have lived thousands of miles apart I will always miss her. Love, Wilma
