Norman Wiegand Obituary

WIEGAND
NORMAN R., 65, a counselor who helped hundreds of area residents, died on Dec. 28, 2008 in Palm Beach Gardens FL. Mr. Wiegand, a 32-year resident of Yardley, died of natural causes. He was a counselor in private practice for the past 20 years, specializing in addiction recovery and family systems work. He is credited with starting the careers of many social workers and therapists he supervised throughout his career. Before committing to fulltime private practice, Mr. Wiegand worked for Catholic Social Services, served as a probation officer and was the director of the Philadelphia Youth Development Center. He was a supervisor at Jewish Federation Day Care Services, Paley Branch, for many years.
Mr. Wiegand is survived by his wife, Phyllis (LaSalle) Wiegand, and children Phillip, Noah, Natalie and Ryan. Besides his wife and children, survivors include a sister, Teresa Wiegand Funk of Binghamton, N.Y., and many longtime clients, colleagues and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, William of Philadelphia.
A private memorial service was held on Jan. 9th. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery, 6950 Tulip St., Philadelphia.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
