VANDERGEEST
REV. PETER J. VANDERGEEST, 89 of Holy Family Villa, Bethlehem, died Wed., July 16, 2003 at the Villa. Born on Jan. 19, 1914 in Phila, son of the late Peter and Annie Lyons Vandergeest. He was educated at Catholic schools in Phila. & St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. His Eminence Cardinal Dennis Dougherty ordained Father Vandergeest at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul in Phila. on May 18, 1940. Father first served as assistant pastor at St. Raphael's Church, Phila. He was named a professor at St. James Catholic High School, Chester (1940-1951) when he was named Rector of Villa St. John Vianney, Downingtown. He was pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, McAdoo (1953-1964) and was Pastor at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Easton, (1964-1982). Father resided in Huntingdon Valley until 1999 and assisted at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Southampton. He is survived by a cousin, Anna VanderVossen of Huntingdon Valley, a niece, Sister Mary Vandergeest, Order of St. Francis, Aston and nephew, James P. Vandergeest, Sea Isle City, NJ, A brother James died earlier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tues. in St. Joseph's Catholicc Church, Easton. Call Mon 5-9 PM and Tues. 9-11 AM in the Church with a Vigil Service Mon. 7:30 PM. Burial in Calvary Cem. Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 129 Davis St., Easton, PA 18042. STRUNK FUNERAL HOME EASTON is in charge of arrangments.

Very fond memories from my years at

St. Raphael's and our time as an altar boy. Father ran a very strict "ship" but we always had great pride in the organization.
