In 1972, Mr. Reber fueled my love for math. I can still hear him sing his hit song “Division by Zero is Impossible!” It stayed #1 on the Fern Hill Top 40 charts for years. And he had some Elvis dance moves to go with it.
And I warmly remember the kindness of the entire Reber family that took me into their home during the summer of 1974 when my brother Kevin was paralyzed. I lived in a room with a squad of Reber boys. I was assigned to the top bunk – a place of honor. And that summer, Mr. Reber employed us to pick hundreds of dandelions – the secret ingredient for his famous homemade wine.
He was an awesome man that helped shape the lives of hundreds of kids. I smile every time I think of him.

Mrs. Reber,

I was sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Reber. You may not remember me, but I'm the son of David and Larue Morgan and in the summer of the Watergate hearings I did some work for you around your home. I enjoyed very much the talks with your husband on Watergate and many other issues of the time. He pushed me to think at a deeper level than I was accustom to and for that I was grateful. He made quite an impression on a young 9th grader.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at his passing. God bless you all.

Mr. Reber taught me math in 6th grade at Fugett Middle School in 1985. I remember him telling me that his name was spelled the same forward and backward. I also remember him teaching us about obtuse and acute angles. I never forgot those lessons. Mr. Reber was entertaining and memorable! He was a good man. I hope his family finds peace and comfort in the weeks ahead.

My prayers to the family. Mr. Reber was my 6th grade teacher at Fern Hill in 1968??. He always motivated us with his sense of humor. I will always remember the class trip to Peach Bottom Dam, his favorite spot. Rest in peace Mr. Reber!!

Sorry to hear about Mr. Reber. He had quite an effect on my pursuing the field of engineering and I could not have done it without some of the basics approach he provided me in 6th grade. To this day, I can look at a number and determine what it is divisible by for numbers from 1 to 20.
He had a very positive effect on many of his students and will be very missed. I wish my children had the same relationship I had with him for their teachers.

Mr. Reber was my teacher at Fern Hill in 1974-75. This was the last year 6th grade was still on the elementary level. He helped to guide my love of math, for which I will always be grateful. I remember the stash of root beer barrels he kept in his desk. I think Chris was in my class, too. God bless you all.

Kathleen and Family. We were blessed to have Mr. Reber teach us at Octorara Area High School the year following his graduation from college. As I recall that is when he met you (Kathleen) since your father was a physician here in Parkesburg. Our class just loved Mr. Reber. He was funny and easy to get along with..and fair. Blessings and our sympathy to all of you during this time of loss. Doris Hutzler Swaim Class 1960 OAHS

Oh Mr. Reber,...I remember Mr. Reber very well. He was my reading teacher, Fern Hill Elementary School, 1961,1962. I also remember very clearly his explanation about his name-the same frontwards and backwards. I thought wow, isn't that neat! There was also the day of the thesaurus comment. I always looked forward to ordering books from the monthly book club. He probably was commenting to the whole class, but I felt as though he was speaking to just me. He said, I guarantee you will use this book the rest of your life. I STILL have this exact copy that I ordered that day, and yes, I still use my thesaurus. My name is Roberta Rettew Iula. Fern Hill years were great. Mr. Reber was a part of that. I am very sorry to learn of his passing on. Thanks for reading.
