Susan,
For some reason, I decided to look up Roger, and was heart broken to discover that he passed last August.
Kayla and I were always fond of Roger. His intelligence and sense of humor stood out. I remember 2 incidents: Samantha had a friend Isabel. Roger was present when her mother called her, and Roger said: "Isabel? Is a bell necessary on a bicycle?:"
The other incident happened during a basketball game with the American Medical Students playing an Italian team for the University intramural championship. Roger was our center, and he was doing a `number´ on their center. The kid got annoyed, and spit on Roger. Roger did not lose his temper, but the kid took a beating from Roger with elbows and everything else he could get away with for the rest of the game.
Roger was a memorable person. Our sincerest condolences to you and your daughters.

I was so very sorry to hear of Dr. Groves´ death. I loved the man - he was indeed a "philosopher-physician"! I miss him greatly, and my heart goes out to Susan, Becky and the rest of his family. May you find peace and healing despite your great loss!

My condolences to all the family. I have thought of Dr. Groves from time to time and wondered about his health after he retired. I always appreciated, not only his care for me, but for my parents in their later years. They always said they felt better after seeing him even when treatment or interventions became limited with their health. Philospher-physician is an appropriate description: he had some clever quips.
