Stewart Bowers Obituary

BOWERS
STEWART C., JR. "DOC" of Havertown, PA, formerly of New Freedom, PA, passed away Dec. 14, 2005. He was the husband of the late Marian C. Bowers, who preceded his death in 2000 "Doc" was born in 1915 in New Freedom, the son of Dr. Stewart C. Bowers and his wife Jesse. He graduated from New Freedom High School, where he was an outstanding "all-around" athlete and then entered Gettysburg College. While at Gettysburg "Doc" was well noticed for his baseball ability as a pitcher (as well as in the York County circles) and was signed to a a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox. He played for the ball team at Fenway Park and then later pitched in their minor league organization. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Second world War and saw service in the European theater. He worked for the American Insulator Co. for a period of years as well as the Ford Motor Co. in sales. He served at the Radnor Valley Country Club and a held PGA card. "Doc" was a lifetime member of the Shrewsbury Masonic Lodge #423 F&AM. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to hear a "good" story and could tell one too! He was predeceased by his son Stewart "Bucky" III and is survived by his son Daniel and his wife Dorothy of Bear, DE; also survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Family and friends may call Monday after 9 A.M. in THE FRANK C. VIDEON FUNERAL HOME, Sproul and Lawrence Rds., Broomall, followed by his Funeral Service at 10 A.M. Int. private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a youth baseball organization.
