I’m a writer by profession and I’m at a loss for words. There are so many beautiful memories, it’s difficult to name a few.

Susan was my dearest, lifelong and very best friend. Our mothers made a pact to have new babies together...she was born in November, I came in January. So we were connected with a bond even before we were born.

We played cutouts and dollhouse, rode two-wheelers, skinned many a knee and had sleepovers before they were in vogue. We shared secrets about first boyfriends, mixed blood and became ‘blood brothers’ at her insistence. We had code names that we called each other: Susanna Banana and Maggie Marshmallow, yet many any would consider us the Odd Couple. There was no doubt that she was the leader, and I, the follower, going along with whatever she said. She was the one who laughed so hard she cried, I was the baby that cried, she said. She urged me to be brave, do more, swim across the SwimO’s pool, telling me that she knew I could do it. She showed me the way...figuratively and literally, a ‘girlfriend’ in every sense of the word.

Susan was my inspiration, a beloved gift to me. She always told me not to worry, giving me a “worry stone” to rub instead. Even in our last email on Tuesday, as she planned upcoming family events, she told me “not to worry about her...that she was fine.”

She was one smart lady who knew how to live life to the fullest. As clear as can be, I can hear her saying, “Don’t worry about me, Maggie Marshmallow, I will be OK, don’t be sad. Go, enjoy your life.”

It has been an honor and a privilege to have had this very special and delightful person a part of my life for as long as I did. I am deeply grateful to have known her so well. I will miss her sooooo...

My deepest condolences to Shawn and to each and every family member.

Susan & I grew up together, living side by side on Palmer St. Went to schools together, birthday parties, etc. She was my oldest son's Godmother and always considered family. She was such a giving and loving person. She will be missed by so many. My heart and prayers are with you Shawn and all her family.

I worked with Susan about 22 years ago at Boericke & Tafel homeopathic medicine,
At that time she was a good friend and and actaully she was my boss. We had many good laughs together in the office.
I am saddened by her passing. She is someone that I have not forgotten all these years.

Susan was more than a good friend, she was a sister to me and very much part of my family. I'm devastated by her passing, but so glad that she came into my life so many years ago. The happy, joyous memories of our friendship will remain alive forever. There is no way to measure the loss of such a beautiful, generous, caring and delightful spirit.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Shawn, his girls, the grandchildren and her family, who were part of my family too. I'm saddened and so sorry I cannot be with you all at this time of great sorrow. I celebrate her wonderful life- well lived. Mary Lou
