Suzanne Shepherd Obituary

Shepherd Suzanne M., MD Age 69, died on June 28, 2022, in a pedestrian accident. Dr. Shepherd was born in London, UK to David and Marion Moore. She is predeceased by her parents, a sister Jennifer M. Geddes, and her life partner, John Hoffpauir. Dr. Shepherd received her undergraduate degree from Goucher College; a MD from Georgetown University, and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from Cayetano Heredia, Lima, Peru. A national leader in academic emergency medicine, Dr. Shepherd helped develop ED residencies at five universities, including UPenn; sat on several boards, committees, review panels, as well as many institutional committees and local/state medical societies. During her distinguished career, she published over 225 articles in prominent emergency medicine and related journals. A frequent traveler with her partner, after his death and in recent retirement, she re-visited her passion in art, making jewelry and taking online watercolor courses. Suzie was an animal lover and advocate, conservationist, avid gardener and cook, connoisseur of tequila and beloved friend to many. She is survived by two nieces and a nephew, as well as several cousins. UPenn Emergency Department will hold a tribute in the fall.
