Tom was my scoutmaster for over 10 years, and is my friend for life. He taught me how to be a man, how to respect others, and how to survive in the woods. Tom was a very very special man who gave unselfishly to others he is one in a billion he was one of the most influential individuals in my life and I will forever grieve his loss.

In 2008, while on a solo motorcycle ride and camping tour from Rhode Island to Key West and back, I stopped to see Tom on my way north, just to shake his hand and thank him in person for teaching me my camping skills when I was a kid. I wanted him to see that I was still using them! I turned up at his door unannounced, on a beat-up Harley loaded down with my backpack, tent, sleeping bag, food, cooking gear... He got such a kick out of that. He treated me to a Philly cheesesteak and a beer at Pica's on West Chester Pike, then I went on my way. That evening, he must have thanked me three or four times for having stopped to thank him. I never thought Tom an emotional man but he was touched by that. And it was the last time we'd ever meet in this life. Go well, old friend. Thank you for being the man you were and living the life you did.
