Timothy John MICHALS Obituary

MICHALS Dr. Timothy John Died peacefully in his home on November 4, 2022, at 81 years old. He was born in McKeesport, PA on February 27th, 1941, the second son of the late Jack and Margaret Michals. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne Kelly Green, and their four children, Alison Griffing (Bill) of Flemington, NJ, Cristin Konkel (Paul) of Littleton, CO, Timothy Michals, Jr. (Julie) of Los Angeles, CA and Jonathan Michals (Alex) of Palm Springs, CA and eight grandchildren, William Timothy, Avery and Ashley Griffing, Susanna, Kaitlin and Meredith Konkel, Olivia and Rose Michals. His brother Duane and brothers and sisters-in-law William J. Green and Patricia, Victor DiNubile, Michael and Roseanne Green, Patrick and Julie Green and the late Mary DiNubile, Dennis Green and Fred Gore. Dr. Michals attended Penn State University and later transferred and graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in 1962. He attended medical school at The Thomas Jefferson Medical College, graduating in 1966. Following an internship at Bryn Mawr Hospital, he spent 2 years in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant, after which he completed his residency in Psychiatry. During his medical career he specialized in Clinical and Forensic Psychiatry, serving as an expert witness in civil and criminal matters. He was distinguished in his field and was active in many medical societies, including the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Association. Outside of medicine, he was involved in several business ventures including being part owner of a restaurant in Manayunk, The United States Hotel Bar and Grill, and a bank, United Valley Bank. Above all, Dr. Michals valued his family and close friends. He enjoyed gardening, collecting and making art and loved to get dressed up for a night out at one of his favorite restaurants. He doted on his grandchildren and loved spending time with them, whether skiing in Colorado or lounging in the pool in Palm Springs. A Celebration of the Life of Dr. Michals is being held for friends and family on November 20th at The Philadelphia Cricket Club, 415 W. Willow Grove Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118, from 3-6 P.M.

I had no idea that Dr. Michals had passed away. I worked with him for many years. I found him to be intelligent, insightful and calming. He was a charming and urbane man. I respected him and his approach to life. May his memory be a blessing.
