William King Obituary
WILLIAM J., 76, retired Chairman of Dauphin Deposit Corporation, passed away on Oct. 28, 2005, born in Phila., he began his baking career at Fidelity Bank, he moved to Harrisburg joining Dauphin Deposit Bank in 1979 where he served as Chairman of the Board and C.E.O for many years. He remained an active force in the local business community as Chairman of both Millers Capital Group and the Stabler Foundation. He was Vice-Chairman of the Klein Foundation and served on the board of Hempt Brothers. As Chairman of Polyclinic Hospital he was instrumental in the merger of three local hospitals forming Pinnacle Health Systems and serving as its first Chairman. He served as past Director and Treasurer of the Pennsylvania State Chamber of Commerce. His varied involvement in the local community included board positions with the YMCA, WITF, Homeland Center and the Salvation Army. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard retiring with the rank of Major. He was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce's Military Liaison Committee. He received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master's in Business from LaSalle College. Mr. King was a graduate of Harvard's Advanced Management Program and received an honorary doctorate in Public Service from HAAC. His commitment to education was evidenced by his service as Trustee for both Albright and Elizabethtown Colleges and as a Director for the HAAC Foundation. Surviving are his wife, Jean Dale King, his sons, William J King, Jr. and Gregory P. King and wife Jean E. King, daughter Pamela K Gertie and husband James L. Gertie, 4 grandchildren, Grace J. Gertie, Alexis P. Gertie, Daniel J. King and Caroline J. King, and a sister Mary K. Park. A Memorial Service will be held at Second United Church of Christ, 251 Verbeke St., Harrisburg, at 12 Noon on Wed., Nov 9, 2005. When Mr. King arrived at Dauphin Deposit, he noticed the work my father, Jim Schropp, performed. He was instrumental in obtaining a better financial situation for him. If my father did not have the benefits and pay at the time of his sudden death, my mother would not have the financial independence she values. Thank you, Mr. King, and say "hi" to my dad for me.

I send my deepest condolences to the King family. I only had the pleasure of meeting Mr. King over the weekend of his son, Greg's wedding but I was very impressed with him. He was a distinguished gentleman and a gracious host. I am edified by hsi many service projects and philanthropy. May he rest in peace, and may God console his widow, his children, and his grandchildren.

As a former Dauphin Deposit Bank and Trust Company employee, I feel a sense of loss upon the death of Mr. King. My deepest sympathies to members of the family, friends, and others who share our loss. He was an excellent banker, philanthropist, and good citizen.
