Charles Lawrence Obituary

Charles Gilbert (C.G.) Lawrence III passed away on October 27th, 2025 in Fayetteville, Georgia. C.G. was born in Warrenton, Virginia on April 3rd, 1959 to the late Charles Gilbert Lawrence Jr. and Frances Settle Lawrence. He grew up in Amissville, Virginia and attended Culpepper County High School. He obtained degrees from Shepherd College (Associates of Applied

Science - Shepherdstown, West Virginia), from Eastern Kentucky University (Bachelors of Science, Fire Prevention & Control - Richmond, Kentucky) and West Virginia University (Master

of Science, Safety Management - Morgantown, West Virginia).

C.G. was the Chief Loss Control & Safety Officer for the State of Georgia. He was an AAA driving instructor and an American Heart Association CPR instructor. He had his Certified Safety

Professional (CSP), Registered Environmental Manager (REM), and Associate in Risk Management for Public entities (ARM-P) certifications.

He was a member of the Amissville Volunteer Fire Department and eventually rose to the rank of chief. During his life in Amissville, he met the love of his life, Donna, through his first cousin. They married September 21st, 1985. Employment opportunities led them from Amissville to Knoxville, Tennessee to Fayetteville, Georgia.

CG and Donna were Sunday school teachers at Warrenton Baptist Church and Rocky Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church.

He was a coach for FCYBA basketball and a Scout Leader for Boy Scout Troop 71. He was an active volunteer with the Lakemont Lightning Swim Team and the Lakemont Homeowners' Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Gilbert Lawrence Jr.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Donna Bales Lawrence; his four children, Charles (Chad) Gilbert Lawrence IV and wife Taylor - Atlanta, Georgia, Adam Casey Lawrence and wife Megan - Alpharetta, Georgia, Chelsea Lawrence Gibson and husband Collin - Woodstock, Georgia, and Jack Christian Lawrence - Fayetteville, Georgia; grandchildren Emerson and Marley; his mother, Frances Settle Lawrence - Amissville, Virginia; his siblings Lee Harlow and husband Lou, Kay Scruggs and husband Mark, Dean Lawrence and wife Lorraine; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Fayetteville First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Georgia on Saturday, November 15th, 2025 at 2pm.

Funeral services will be held December 27th, 2025 at 2pm at Amissville Baptist Church in Amissville, Virginia with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Honors and a Last Call will be rendered by the Amissville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.
