David Walizer Obituary

Long time resident of the Owens Valley, David D. Walizer, lovingly known as Dave by his friends and family, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on July 21, 2025, in El Dorado Hills, CA, due to complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born on November 25, 1939, Dave's life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, his career, and his varied interests that brought joy to many.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Judy, with whom he built a life filled with love and mutual respect. Together, they raised two sons, David, Sean and daughter Julie, who added to Dave's joy with the gift of four cherished grandchildren. His role as a husband, father, and grandfather was one he held in the highest regard, always striving to provide guidance, support, and love.
Professionally, Dave began his career with the US Forest Service in south Californian then moving into law enforcement in 1964 as a deputy with the Inyo County Sheriff's office before moving to Bishop. His keen analytical mind and intelligence led him to become an investigator with the California State Fire Marshal's office in 1974. With each career advancement, Dave's expertise and dedication were clear, culminating in a move to the Sacramento area in 1985, where he continued to serve with distinction until his retirement in 1998.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dave had a passion for the skies. He became a pilot and shared countless hours flying with the Civil Air Patrol, where his love for aviation and his commitment to service merged. Dave's voice was also a familiar one in the HAM radio community, where he communicated with people from all walks of life, sharing information, stories, and laughter.
Dave's involvement with the Bishop Elks Lodge was another facet of his commitment to community service. His contributions were numerous, and his presence was a source of stability and camaraderie within the lodge.
Those who knew Dave would describe him as loving, intelligent, and analytical – a man who approached life with a methodical and thoughtful perspective, whether solving complex problems at work, navigating the skies, or offering advice over the airwaves.
As we bid farewell to Dave, we are reminded of the indelible mark he has left on the lives of those he touched. His legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to live on through the memories we cherish and the stories we share about a life well-lived
Dave's life story is one of commitment – to his family, his career, and his passions. As we honor his memory, we take comfort in knowing that his journey was full of purpose and that he was deeply loved. He will be profoundly missed by his family, colleagues, and friends, whose lives are forever enriched by having known him. Per David's request, there will be no funeral services held.

In addition to everything mentioned in his obituary, Dave was a truly great guy. He was a generous and kind man. Smart as a whip, and always willing to help anyone in need of advice or a strong hand. It is heartbreaking that Alzheimers robbed him.
I am sending my sincere condolences to his family during this sad time. But, I know you have a treasure trove of wonderful memories.
