Dixon Morgan passed away on September 11, 2021, at age 77, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He passed at his home in Bishop, California surrounded by his family. Dixon was born in Southgate, California on September 4, 1944, to Fred and Thelma Morgan. He moved with his family to the Bishop and Mammoth area at the age of four. Dixon graduated from Bishop Union High School, as did Susan and their four children. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era and was always proud of his service to his country. He owned and operated Morgan's Tree Service for nearly 50 years. When his children would join him on tree trimming jobs, often begrudgingly, he would refer to them as his "branch managers." Dixon was best known for his sense of humor, larger than life personality, and contagious laugh. He was active in the Bishop community his entire life through rodeo with his children, hot rod restoration and drag racing, Harley Davidson motorcycles and motocross racing. He also loved hiking and fishing in the Sierras. Dixon had many lifelong "buddies" who frequently dropped by his home on Mandich Street, heading straight to the garage to check out his latest restoration project. His children all agree that after a visit from their dad, their cars would be washed, broken items repaired, and their garages nice and tidy. Also, if they looked carefully after Dixon left, they would find some cash tucked away in the dash of their car. For many years, if you wanted to visit with Dixon, you needed to first get past his beloved dogs, Simba, and later Rusty. He never left home without Simba, who would sit patiently on guard in the truck, no matter how long the wait. Somewhere up above, the long wait by Simba and Rusty is now over.
Dixon is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan Morgan; his four children: Allison Morgan, Justin Morgan, Amanda Morgan, and Melissa Rankin; three grandchildren: Savanna, Wyatt, and Finlay; brother in-law Ron Ryan; numerous nieces and nephews: Mike Morgan, Kelly Morgan Merly, Corey Morgan, Amber Morgan, Dean Morgan, Dylan Ryan, and Dalton Ryan. Dixon was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Thelma Morgan; mother and father-in-law Tom and Jackie Ryan, brother-in-law Mike Ryan; his older brother Doug Morgan; younger brother David Morgan passed away one week after his own death.
