Julie Mason Obituary

Funeral services for Julie Mason will be held at 10 a.m., Sunday, July 11, 2021 at the Fish Lake Valley Cemetery in Dyer, Nevada. A Crydance will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 254 Crater Street in Big Pine, California at dusk.
Born April 27, 1988, Julie Rae Mason was a lifelong Big Pine resident, the youngest daughter of Karen "Tootie" Levine and Clifton Mason, Sr., also known as Johnny or Dancing Bear. She was a member of the Big Pine Paiute Tribe and maintained ties with her family members of the Bishop Paiute and Timbisha Shoshone Tribes. Her culture was important to her and she enjoyed powwow dancing as a young girl, as well as playing hand game and chuptuhii, both in tournaments and just for fun with family. She liked being active and played sports her entire high school career, before going on to play volleyball for Lassen Community College. Later in life she developed a talent and passion for beading and spent many hours creating intricate designs for sale, but also gifts for loved ones.
Spending time with her friends and family was important to Julie. She loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Driving around the Big Pine and Bishop areas was one of her favorite pastimes, and she was always quick with a smile and wave to friends and family she saw out and about. Her warm heart and kind nature reached out to so many people, and the legacy she leaves behind is one of kindness and strength in the face of whatever difficulties that life gives. She passed away January 1, 2021 at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, Nevada after battling Covid-19.
Julie is survived by her mother, Karen Levine, sisters Lorena Levine and Carrie Marquez, brother-in-law John Marquez, brothers Erick Mason, Clifton Mason, Jr., Justin Kinney and sister-in-law Little Eva Kinney, aunts Rena Tibbetts, Cheryl Levine, Julie Price, Daras Mason, Rachel Mason and Pamela Frank, uncles Douglas Frank, and Earl Frank, III, longtime companion Everett Bowman, his son Lennox Bowman and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, all dearly loved in life and deeply saddened by her passing.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father Clifton Mason, Sr., grandmother Amelia Patterson-Frank, grandfather Earl Frank, Jr., grandfather Dorland Mason, grandmother Pauline Westervelt, grandfather Ray Levine, aunts Doreen Mason and Jacqueline Mason, uncles Edmond "Henry" Mason, Rick Mason, James Westervelt, and Thomas Parsons, brother Gerald Mason, sister Janine Mason and cousin Ann Moose.
