Michael John "Dua" Bacoch III
1984 - 2021
Michael John (Dua) Bacoch III passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2021 at his home in Big Pine with his family by his side, he was 37 years old. Dua was born in Bishop on June 15, 1984 to Michael and Carla Bacoch Jr. First born of four boys, he was a proud Shoshone/Paiute Native and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church as well as St. Stephens Mission Catholic Church in Big Pine.
He grew up in the Owens Valley, attending Bishop Elementary Schools during his youth. He attended Big Pine School District, graduating from Big Pine High School. After high school he attended Santa Barbara City College, there he found the love of Volleyball, excelling and playing volleyball with the college. After College he briefly moved to the Hawaiian Islands of Oahu, eventually returning home to Big Pine.
Dua loved his family and enjoyed his younger brothers as they grew up, he was their biggest advocate watching and cheering for his brothers while they played sports.
Dua loved traveling with his family and his late grandmother to Native American Bowling Tournaments throughout the Western States, where he discovered his passion for bowling, and eventually joined his family in the Bishop City Bowling leagues.
Dua was a member of the Big Pine Paiute Tribe of the Owens Valley, sitting on the Tribal Council as Secretary, most recently he was a board member of The Toiyabe Indian Health Board of Directors. He was proud and enjoyed helping his Native people, he will be missed in Indian Country!
We are so thankful for the time we had with our son, he will be greatly missed and always loved, as it was said thru the promises of Christ we will see him again. Travel well our son!
Dua is survived by his parents Michael and Carla, brothers Isaiah, Micah and Jacob Bacoch. Son Alika Bacoch, niece Eibanuwu Bacoch, uncles Norman Charley and Kyle Crowl, aunt Vanessa Charley and uncle Harry Butterbredt, aunts Veronica Charley, Michele Lemus and Danelle Gutierrez, numerous cousins and friends. Dua is preceded in death by his grandparents Cleveland Charley, Hazel Crowl and Michael and Geraldine Bacoch Sr, uncles Clayton Charley and Phelan Jackson, cousin Tiana Hooper.
Services will be October 9, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Bishop at 10 a.m. with burial at the Woodman Cemetery in Big Pine, CA. Luncheon to follow at the Alan Spoonhunter Memorial Gymnasium.
