Michael Deppisch Obituary

Michael George Deppisch died at his home in Big Pine, California on May 23, 2025. He was born on October 6, 1946, in Madison, Wisconsin to Vincent and Evelyn Deppisch. Mike spent his young adulthood in the Los Angeles area where he worked as an electrician, running cable for businesses. Mike took pride in his work and ensured that the jobs he did were "tight" and done "right". This attention to detail was evident in all areas of his life, as he often said, "If it aint' tight, it ain't right". Hedges were trimmed, vehicles washed and waxed, property policed for weeds and any needed repairs. His 1987 Toyota truck has over 300k miles and works like a charm. If something broke, it was fixed – if it still worked, it didn't need to be replaced. In fact, it took 7 years to convince him to replace a TV console from the '80s (which still works and has been repurposed) with a flat screen, smart TV. His stuff was always "tight and right".
Mike purchased property in Big Pine while he still worked and lived in Los Angeles, moving to the area full-time over 30 years ago. Mike had many passions: motorcycles, classic cars, music and billiards were some of his favorites. Mike enjoyed riding his BMW; going to car shows all over, making sure that every year he attended Hot August Nights, as well as Fall Colors, his very own birthday event; listening to classic and '50s rock-n-roll and making his own music with his bongos; and playing 9-ball on his table – a daily event, Visiting on the deck with friends, eating some Limberger and drinking beer were also highlights.
Mike met his wife, Marilyn, through a mutual friend, but it wasn't until she bought a Mustang convertible that their love story began. One car ride, followed by a ride on the BMW and sharing Chevron burritos on the deck later and they were inseparable. Slowly but surely, Marilyn moved in and never left. They entered a domestic partnership first and then married in 2025. They spent their 16 years together laughing, having fun and making memories. They had 16 years without a fight and ended every night with an "I love you". Marilyn will cherish those many memories.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Evelyn and sister, Mary Jo. He is survived by his brother, Paul Deppisch of Lake Havasu City, AZ; his cousin, Dan Wheeler of Mico, Texas; his "brothers from other mothers", Tim Walsh of Bishop, CA, Javier Dominguez of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Arlin and Richard Grotius of Cherry Valley, CA and Max Godde of Jackson, CA; and his wife and best friend, Marilyn Mann (AKA Mrs. D) of Big Pine, CA, his own Munchkin. Marilyn will greatly miss her Honey Bunny.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Big Pine Town Hall at 11:00 am. Please join us in fun memories and a shared meal.
