RANDALL WEICHE Obituary

Randall Lee Weiche, born November 3, 1959 in Los Gatos, California to Beverly and William Weiche, passed away with his family by his side on August 24, 2019. Randy's life was marked by a lifelong passion for nature and conservation, and total devotion to his family. These traits were the product of his own childhood spent frequently traveling the country. Randy sought out similar adventures throughout his life, always wanting to share them most with his loving wife and two daughters.
At 13, diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, Randy fought the first battle of his young life. This would become the first of many times Randy would overcome the odds of his health diagnoses. Through his victories over each successive health challenge or physical ailment, he learned to live the kind of blessed life that comes with the knowledge that it can be taken from you at any time. It was through these lessons that Randy learned, and showed others how, to live without fear or hesitancy to do what you dream of.
Despite having spent months in a hospital as he entered high school, Randy was determined to pursue his education and eventually attended Cal Poly Tech University at San Luis Obispo where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Management in Forestry. During this time, Randy spent much of his time away from school exploring the Eastern Sierra, where he fell in love not only with the mountains, but also his wife of 36 years, Donna.
Randy was a lifelong avid hiker, fisherman, and explorer. Though none of us knew it, until recently, radiation treatment from his childhood had resulted in his heart and lungs not fully developing. You wouldn't know it, because he kept up with the best of them, with the assumption everyone was working as hard as he was to climb each peak, including Mount Whitney. Soon after marrying Donna, Randy proved the doctors wrong, once again, when they were blessed with the birth of their two daughters: Courtney and Heather. Randy and Donna were determined to pass on their love of the outdoors and camping, and to always keep exploring what the world has to offer, no matter where you may live.
Randy and the family moved more times than an address book could keep track of, taking jobs that would support the family, but not the dream of using his degree. In 2000, however, Randy was able to fulfill that dream, and landed a job for the California Department of Transportation in Bishop, CA, where he had first met Donna and built his family. It was the first time in Randy's adult life that he loved where he lived and worked at the same time.
Realizing there was still so much they wanted to do, Randy and Donna retired younger than most and took to the road in an RV, where they often felt most at home. Their goal was to visit every National Park and Monument, as well as every National Baseball Stadium, across the Country with their dog Lucky in the front seat. Their love of exploration and worldly experiences is something that should inspire everyone. From now on, Randy will continue to travel on through his daughters, Courtney and Heather (Tim), his big sister Debbie (Dave), and through the love of his life, Donna.
The family invites everyone to join in a Celebration of Life service at Laws Museum, September 21, 2019 from 4-6pm to share memories and honor the life of Randy Weiche.
