Richard Button Obituary
Richard Button, 74, loving son of four, father of four, grandfather of seven and husband to Rosaleen Button, passed away in Reno, Nevada on September 20, 2025. Richard Button was born on July 17, 1951 in Bishop, CA and grew up in Lone Pine, CA where he attended Lone Pine Elementary and Lone Pine High School. Soon after, he attended and graduated from Los Angeles Trade Technical College with an associate's degree.
While in Los Angeles, he met Rosaleen Garcia, who would soon be the love of his life. They were married on October 21, 1972 and raised four children together. Richard pursued a career as a heavy-duty equipment mechanic working for DetroitDiesel/Allison and China Lake Naval Base before spending the rest of his career working for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). He eventually retired after working with LADWP after 29 years of service.
Richard spent his free time fishing in the creeks of Owens Valley with his children and grandchildren and coached both senior league baseball and the Owens Valley All Star team. He enjoyed taking photos of nature and at family gatherings, working on classic cars, traveling to Reno's Hot August Nights with Rosaleen every year, checking out automotive swap meets and car shows, and above all, spending time with his family. During his retirement, Richard served on the Toiyabe Indian Health board, Owens Valley Water Commission, and served as the tribal Chairman of the Lone Pine Paiute-Shoshone Tribe.
Richard is survived by his mother Irene Button, wife Rosaleen Button, children Christina, James, Johnny and Clifford. Grandchildren Andrew Button, Ronni Siddall, Clifford A Button, Patricia Siddall, Loreal Button, Alina Button and Dominque Smith. Great-grandchildren James Siddall, Jayden Siddall and Rosalie Siddall as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Whitney Cemetery. A potluck meal will be held directly after the graveside at the Lone Pine Paiute/Shoshone gym.
