Rose Harris Obituary

Rose Marie Harris of Bishop CA died on Sept 5th. Her beloved husband, best friend and soulmate, Mike was at her side.
Rose was born in Mojave, CA to Jack and Joyce Raper. The family moved to Lone Pine, where she grew up and graduated from Lone Pine High. Rose waited tables at Toms Place for many years in her 20s. Many a customer came for coffee or a meal just to see her. She treated everyone well and you left with a smile on your face unless you pushed her too far – then you left with your tail between your legs.
She met her husband while serving breakfast one morning. They met in two places per the HIP: In front of the FIREPLACE at TOMS PLACE. "The moment that I saw you, in that very special place, I knew that I'd forever love that face" per HIP. At Toms Place she developed respect for good food and love of cooking. She generously shared her cooking and her recipes. Rose also loved exploring the Owens Valley and looking for "tiny treasures" with Mike and her pets. She would make things as gifts and paint them with exquisite detail. With a touch of paint and the addition of a feather she could turn a stone into a sailing ship.
Rose and Mike were self-employed and sold firewood for many years. If you were fortunate enough to be their customers, you got the best cord of wood ever! Each piece hand-picked for you. Many a summer morning you would see their loaded wood truck returning from the forest, fully loaded, before you even got to work.
Rose loved animals, especially her dogs and cats. She treated her feral cats so well they soon became pets, family. She was an avid gardener. She could and did make anything and everything grow. She loved to take seeds from flowers in the Fall and nurse them into seedlings over the cold winters. She talked to her plants, and they responded with amazing growth and blossoms.
Rose is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, and many devoted friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Per her wishes, there will be no services.
