Dorothy Shaltry Obituary
Dorothy Louise Shaltry (Gielczyk) was born on Sept. 22, 1921, in Saginaw to Frank and Clara Gielczyk (Gorlewski). She passed away on Nov. 27, 2025.
She attended St. Josaphat's School and St. Andrew's High School in Saginaw, graduating in 1939 as the Valedictorian. She married Robert Shaltry in 1958.
Dorothy retired from Michigan Bell (Ameritech) in 1973 and moved to George Lake in Lupton, and then to Tawas City in 1994. Dorothy and Bob spent many enjoyable winters in Florida, Texas and Gulf Shores, Ala. She was active in Holy Family Catholic Church and Council of Catholic Women.
Dorothy belonged to the Telephone Pioneers, Tawas Bay Art Council, the "Louise" Ladies Lunch, and she was a Detroit Tigers fan since childhood. She enjoyed oil painting and artwork with pressed flowers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 2011; her parents; sisters, Emily Saydak and Josephine Gielczyk; and brothers, Clarion (Gil), and infant brother, Florian.
Dorothy is survived by 34 dear nieces, nephews and family members including Michael (Sandy) Saydak of AuGres, Brian (Fawn) Gielczyk of Saginaw, Mary Jo (Richard) Clement of Ada and Jenny (Dennis-deceased) Gielczyk of Saginaw, sister-in-law, Jordis Shaltry of New Carlisle, Ohio, Dick and Miriam Champion of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Jani Coutts of Carmichael, Calif.; and special dear friends, Ron and Denise Stec, Brent and Teril Loeffler, Karen Blackmore, and Mary Anne Filka; and many loving caregivers who made her failing years enjoyable.
A funeral service will be held for Dorothy on Friday, Dec. 5, at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas, at 11 a.m. There will be a rosary service held at the church at 9:45 a.m., and formal visitation will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Dorothy will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw, on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. Please direct any memorial contributions toward Holy Family Catholic Church.
