Edmund Kokowicz Obituary

Edmund Stephen Kokowicz III, affectionately known as Steve, left this world on Jan. 4, 2026, at the age of 61, after a life rich in love, laughter, and the simple pleasures that make a life well lived.
Born on April 30, 1964, in Wayne County, Steve was a man whose presence was as steady and reliable as the changing of the seasons.
Steve's heart found its match when he married Jeri Lynn Sheridan on a beautiful spring day in East Tawas, on May 10, 1986. Their love blossomed into a family when they welcomed their daughter, Katie Lynn, who later brought Steve immense joy by marrying Justin Smith and giving him three cherished grandchildren, Hunter, Timber and River. Steve was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a doting grandfather, each role played with the same unwavering dedication and warmth.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Stephen Kokowicz Jr. He is survived by his mother, Phyllis Ann Bridenthal; and his sisters, Tina (Tony) Armendo and Lorena (Darren) Thompson; and his many nieces and nephews, who will fondly remember his spirited nature and humor he brought to every family gathering.
Professionally, Steve was as grounded as he was in life. He worked first as a truck driver before finding his calling as a painter with Superior Painting. His work was more than a job – it was a craft. Known for his meticulous nature and keen eye for detail, Steve was someone his coworkers could always depend on, not only for his skilled hands but also for his quick wit.
Away from work, Steve found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending time outdoors, fishing, camping, and tending to his yard and garden, creating a welcoming space for family and friends to gather. Those who knew him will remember his laughter, his storytelling, and the pride he felt watching his grandchildren enjoy the space he so lovingly cared for.
Steve's childhood best friend, Mark, was a constant throughout his life – a true testament to Steve's loyalty and the deep bonds he formed. Together, they shared countless adventures and remained steadfast companions through all of life's ups and downs.
Steve will be remembered as a loving and genuinely kind man, especially for his humor and the way he could light up a room with his smile, always making others feel at ease. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will continue to inspire all who loved and knew him.
In his passing, Steve leaves behind a tapestry of memories that his family and friends will hold dear. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of living life with a generous and open heart. As we say goodbye to Edmund Stephen Kokowicz III, we do so with gratitude for the time we spent with him and the love he gave so freely. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the natural beauty he so adored.
Per Steve's wishes cremation has taken place with no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home Standish.
