Edward Karn Obituary

Edward Russel Karn, 92, of Hale, passed away at his home on Nov. 23, 2021.
He was born in Detroit on Jan. 21, 1929 to Edward and Elvira (Mueller) Karn. He was born and raised in the Detroit area and married Gertrude Mundt on Dec. 22, 1951. They raised their family in the Detroit area and later moved to Hale.
Ed loved to spend time with his family and friends, telling them stories of years gone by. He shared his love of German baked goods, which he learned from his grandfather, at every social gathering he attended.
Ed was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hale and served in many church capacities. Ed loved his church choir, which he directed for many, many years. He was always happiest when he was able to plant his garden, pick the raspberries or decorate his house for the holiday seasons. Ed served his country by enlisting in the Air Force, and then served in the Michigan Air National Guard.
To say that Ed loved Christmas would barely touch the feelings he felt about this special time of year. He loved the lights, decorations, traditions and of course, the Hallmark Christmas movies! Ed always said that the Nativity was the most important display he would put out each year.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude L. (Mundt) Karn. He is survived by his sons, Edward (Shirl) Karn and David; and daughter, Nancy (Richard) Krohn; grandchildren, Heather Karn, Sarah (Jeremy) West, Melanie (Brian) Gilbert and Tasha Karn, Richard (Kim) Krohn, Ryan (Sherry)Krohn, Rachael (Pete) Matson, and Rusty (Chantelle) Krohn; and 18 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Edward will take place along with his son, David, on Friday, Dec. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home, 121 South Washington St., Hale. Funeral ceremony will take place 11 a.m. (10 a.m. in state) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 407 South Washington St., Hale. Interment will take place in Esmond Evergreen Cemetery in Hale.
