Genevieve Marie Simpson, age 81, of Tawas, passed away on April 27, 2021.
She is survived by her loving children, Roger (Catherine) Simpson of Whittemore, Shirley (Timothy) Nickell of Whittemore and Vicki (Philip) VanDyke of Bellevue, Neb.; grandchildren, Jacob (Tracy) Miller, Katy (Troy) Miller, Gabrielle (Michael) Green, Sara VanDyke, Gwin (Andy) Dague, Rudy (Monica) Simpson and Landyn Marthaler; great grandchildren, J'Sean, J'Vaun and Traevion Green and one on the way. Nieces, nephews, special friends and extended family also survive.
Genevieve was born on March 13, 1940 in Flint to the late George Ronald and Alice Lavesta (Hindenlang) Vliet. She married Glen Simpson on Feb. 14, 1958 and together they raised their family and enjoyed 55 years of marriage.
Genevieve loved music, especially in church, and could play the guitar, accordion, piano, banjo, organ, steel guitar and harmonica. She enjoyed gardening, canning and she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Simpson; parents; and siblings, Evelyn Bellows, Dorothy Emmons, George Ronald Vliet Jr., Janet Popejoy, Larry Vliet, Carol Norris and James Vliet.
Genevieve will be laid to rest next to her husband at a noon graveside committal service at Esmond-Evergreen Cemetery in Hale, with Pastor Doug Kennedy officiating.
