Harvey Sample Obituary
He was born the son of Harvey and Margaret (nee Moore) Sample Sr. on Feb. 15, 1954 in Ypsilanti. Harvey graduated from Pinckney High School in 1972. Harvey worked for Fingerle Lumber in Ann Arbor as a truck driver and loader for several years and retired in 2005.
He married Judith Ann Hoots on May 7, 1988 in South Lyon and together they shared 29 years of marriage. Harvey enjoyed hunting of all kinds, but his true passion was working with his hands. He loved working with lumber and building things including their home. Harvey was known as a "Mr. Fix It" and a "Jack of all Trades." He took pride in his work and loved being able to help others whenever it was needed.
Harvey was a member of First Baptist Church of Tawas City and served as an elder for many years. He was a family man and friend to all! Harvey will truly be missed.
Harvey is survived by his wife, Judy; and children, Jason (Nicole) Sample, Stacy (Kyle) Pabin, Jeromie (Katrina) Golab and Corrine (Mike) Spirl; brothers and sisters, Sam Sample, Ruth (Harold) Ryan, Frank Sample and Susan (Corey) Brown, 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and many many friends. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Mary Treadway.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Tawas City with Reverend Rob Nordin officiating. His family will receive friends at church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Those wishing to express their condolences are encouraged to make a memorial contribution in his name to First Baptist Church of Tawas City. Judy and family our thoughts and prayers are with you all at such a difficult time. As hard as it is to come to grips with this we feel blessed not only to know you all but also to have worked with you and Harvey. For all who knew him he touched us all.He had a personality that brought numerous smiles.He will be missed by all who knew him.we are the fortunate ones that he touched us. To the Sample family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you go through this most difficult time. We met Harvey when he did some work for us the last 2 years at our cottage in South Branch. He was referred to us by Bernards Lumber. We had some projects for him this year and we were patiently waiting for him because he was so busy, just last night a neighbor asked if we wanted the name of someone else and we said "no we will wait for Harvey" and then Ed at Bernards contacted us today with the news of his passing. From the moment we met him 2 years ago, he was family! Every time he was leaving he would shake my husband's hand and then he'd pull him into a hug and say "we're family". He would tease that he was going to come by and drop in a line and we told him that he was welcome to do that anytime. Our hearts are so heavy and we only knew him briefly, his impact was great and we will miss him forever. Last year he installed 2 doorwalls for us, we asked him if he could recommend someone to paint the trim, he grimaced and said "I like natural wood " in honor of him we are going to leave them natural!
