James Cavanaugh Obituary

James (Jim) E. Cavanaugh, age 71, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born Dec 2, 1953 in Detroit to the late James L. and Joan (Reilly) Cavanaugh.
Jim had a successful career as a painter in Oscoda. He was highly regarded for the quality of his work, especially his skill with wood staining. For many years, Jim played on local pool leagues and was respected for his skills on the table.
In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and cousins. Jim spent his later years providing loving, in-home care to his mother and father in their elder years.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Jessica, whom he was very close and devoted to; and his siblings, Sharon, Patrick, Mary, Kevin, Joni, and Matt; and he was Uncle Jimmy to Jenn, Colleen, Trischa, Amy, Ashley, and Lyndsay. He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian; and infant sister, Maureen.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life service at the American Legion, 349 S. State St. Oscoda, on Saturday, Aug. 16 starting at 2 p.m. with food served at 3 p.m.
