James Reynolds Obituary
James William Reynolds, recently of East Tawas, Mich., died on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, at St. Mary's of Michigan Medical Center, in Saginaw, Mich., at the age of 81.
He was born on July 18, 1937, in Champaign, Ill., to E. Paul Reynolds and Ida E. (Langley) Reynolds. Jim graduated from Champaign Senior High School in 1955, after which he entered the U.S. Air Force and found himself stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda. There he met and soon married Ann McNichol, on March 2, 1957.
Especially in his later years, Jim loved telling stories of his adventures as an aircraft engineering mechanic stationed in Alaska with his new wife. Upon his discharge from the Air Force in 1959, Jim began work as a cashier in Oscoda State Savings Bank, working his way up to president of the bank in 1975. After moving to Huron Community Bank in 1980, Jim retired as a vice-president in 2000.
Beginning in the 1960's, Jim contributed to the Oscoda-AuSable community through his involvement on the Oscoda-AuSable Planning Commission, and continued active participation as area representative for the Salvation Army, member of Oscoda/AuSable Jaycees, Shriners Club, AuSable Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, Oscoda Lions Club, hospital board, Industrial Development Corporation, Community Concert, Air Force Association, Economic Development Board, and Oscoda Baptist Church.
In 2007, after several years as a snowbird, Jim moved with Ann to Sun City West, Ariz, where he could play golf year round. He loved to cook, play pool, sing in the choir, and tell stories.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ann, and his children Lynn (Alan Homans) of Huntington, Vermont, Cathy (Murray Zichlinsky) of Anaheim, Calif., and Paul (Mari) of Huntington Beach, Calif; his granddaughters, Emma Homans, Sophie Homans, Kara Reynolds, and Holly Reynolds; his brothers, Paul Eugene Reynolds of Plainfield, Ill, and Ronald (Deborah Richie) Reynolds of Champaign, Ill; brothers-in-law, Hamilton D. (Carolyn) McNichol, of Oscoda, , and James (Sandra) McNichol, of Little Elm, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ida, his sister, Phyllis Schnoebelen, and his sister-in-law, Betty (Eugene) Reynolds.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service for Jim on Saturday, Sept 8 at 1 p.m. at Oscoda Baptist Church, 5589 Old US Hwy 23, Oscoda, MI 48750.
