John Sasser Obituary

John William Sasser (Sam, Apple, Sam, Sam, Easy, Rider), 67, of Whittemore, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026 in Iosco County.
John was born in Pontiac on Feb. 5, 1959 to the late James Sasser and Phyllis Scarberry.
John spent his working years doing construction, but his heart and soul always remained in the great outdoors. John could find any excuse possible to be in nature. His hobbies consisted of hunting whitetail, fishing for gills, bass, and walleye, foraging wildflowers and mushrooms, or tinkering about with his latest treasure find.
He loved having a good time with family and friends over a cold beer and a warm fire. He loved to dance and would serenade everyone with his favorite Jim Croce or Johnny Horton song.
John is survived by his sons, Justin (Kristina) Sasser and Brandon (Amanda) Sasser; six grandchildren; brother, Jim Sasser, and sister, Peggy (Bruce) Uren; Stepdad Alvie Scarberry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sasser and Phyllis Scarberry; and siblings, Deborah (Sis), D, Jeff (Steve), Jennifer, Jesse and Jodi.
A celebration of life is scheduled to take place at John's favorite watering hole, Sportsman's Lounge in Whittemore on April 18 from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help cover costs at the celebration of life or please plant a tree to give back to the outdoors John loved so much.
