I know my daddy who died in 1981 would want me to extend condolences to the family of "Buck" King. I often heard Buck's name spoken in the fondest manner in our home. He and my daddy, Al Wallace, Jr., were at Newberry College together and remained friends here in Beaufort. He and my daddy had the greatest sense of humor and enjoyed a good harmless prank. Those were the good days. I hate to know that we have lost another of that generation. Love to Frances and all the family of "Buck" King.

To all of Buck's family, my thoughts an prayers are with you. He was a man with a huge heart and every corner of it was filled with love for his family. Yet he had room for so much love, kindness, and generosity for those whose lives he touched over the years. I first knew of him in the mid 1960's when he was my father's banker. To my dad, the words "bank" and "Buck" were the same. I met "Buck" in 1969 when he loaned me the money to buy a shrimp boat for my dad to run. I was employed with C&S Bank in Greenville at the time. A year later he convinced me to come to work for him. I soon learned he loved "South Of The Border" and Darlington races. He invited me and my family to share a "Race weekend" with him and his family. South of the Border had a golf course and he happened to have a bag of clubs in his trunk. He challenged me to a round of golf and promised he was not a golfer as I wasn't. After each of us shot in the 60's, as I remember it, we agreed we had sufficiently mastered the game of golf, so we went directly from the 2nd hole to the 19th(watering!) hole. Never laughed so much in my life! When Peoples Bank was sold, I left and ran a shrimp boat for 11 years-----and ate a lot of Maryland Fried Chicken. Still Do! Rest in peace Buck, old friend, rest in peace. You will be missed.

Frances and family - what a comfort to know that God is with each of you every day of your life and the constant support of family and friends, just has to be in God's plan for all of us. We personally treasure those random memories of "Buck", that make us smile, no matter what is going on in our life, at the moment. You will remain in our thoughts and our prayers as you move through the grieving process, while holding tight to your very own special memories. We love you always!

My papa was a wonderful man. His heart was full of love. He was a man full of faith, family and hardwork. He included humor in all of his actions. He will be greatly missed. Tonight we watched Lawerence Welk with Mimi- in complete remembrance of him. We know Papa was looking down, smiling. I love you Papa and I already miss you. I promise to make you proud.

Mr. A. P. “Buck” King

I am lucky, to have known Mr. A.P. Buck King,
Who now rest, where the angels sing,
He's probably pulling pranks, at the Pearly Gates,
Making them all laugh, he just can't wait.
The time I've shared, with this special man,
He has a reputation, of giving many a hand,
Helped my mom and dad, build a new motel,
Many will line up, with gratitude to tell.
Merry Christmas he'd say, even in June,
Always making jokes, another coming soon,
If you need fried chicken, The King is his fame,
Best chicken in town, Maryland Fried's claim.
Helped many people out, down at the bank,
The clocks still hangs, going click and clank,
Mr. Vice President, at the bank name Peoples,
Helping many there, even loaning for new steeples.
I've only really known, Mr. Buck not long at all,
As my son's Papa, he stood proud and tall,
Together with his little girl, we gave him a grandson,
Looks like his Papa, good looking and handsome.
Always loved his family, did all that he could,
Not always perfect, always tried like he should,
He'll be missed by many, and I'm sure one,
Especially by Frances, and his loving grandson.
