Carmen Conley Obituary

Carmen Dur Conley, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, accomplished businesswoman, and lifelong traveler, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Born on August 27, 1947, in Washington, DC, Carmen grew up in a world shaped by diplomacy and global perspective. As the daughter of a Foreign Service Officer, she spent her formative years living in Washington, D.C., France, Germany, Panama, and Japan. Her international upbringing instilled in her a deep love of travel, storytelling, and curiosity about the world - traits that remained central to her identity throughout her life.

Carmen attended Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, where she met the love of her life, Norm, who attended the University of Notre Dame. Their 57-year marriage was a true partnership defined by loyalty, shared purpose, and deep affection.

Carmen balanced raising her family while owning and operating The Conley Insurance Center for thirty years alongside Norm. Known for her impeccable client service, incredible work ethic, attention to detail, and innate leadership skills, she gave 110 percent to everything she touched. After selling their business in 2007, Carmen and Norm retired to Hilton Head, South Carolina, and enjoyed a chapter filled with family and friends.

Travel was one of Carmen's greatest joys. She especially loved cruising (30+ cruises), and she and Norm explored destinations throughout the world. They made multiple visits to the Caribbean and Western Europe, and ventured as far as Australia, New Zealand, and Russia.

Whether planning trips or hosting family gatherings, Carmen had a gift for turning ordinary moments into lasting memories. Full of life and stories, she was known for her energy, optimism, contagious laugh, and her ability to lift up others when they needed it most.

Carmen was fiercely devoted to her family. She was a loyal granddaughter, daughter, daughter-in-law and sibling. She was also a loving and supportive wife and a simply incredible mother. Known as "Amie" to her five grandchildren and one great-grandson, she delighted in making each of them feel loved and cherished. Family togetherness was at the center of her life, and she took great joy in caring for those she loved.

Carmen was predeceased by her parents, Philip and Elena Dur. She is survived by her beloved husband Norm, her sons Norm III (Chris) and Steve (Esther), grandchildren Buddy (Abby), Danny, Tess, Ariana, Marcos, and great-grandson Bennie. She is also survived by her siblings Elena, Phil, Stan, Jackie, and John.

Carmen will be remembered for her strength, warmth, boundless sense of adventure, and the unique way she made people feel seen, supported, and loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she enriched.

Her family will celebrate Carmen's life in a private memorial service in St. Louis on Sunday, December 21, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
