Charles Ewing Obituary

Charles A. Ewing, 81, of Beaufort, S.C., went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, August 13, 2010. He was born on July 8, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late John and Anna LaBash Ewing. He was the brother of the late Richard A. Ewing. Instead of waiting for a possible draft, Chuck joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1948 just before the outbreak of the Korean War. He was one of the "Frozen Chosin" and suffered frozen hands and feet in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir. He was a proud Korean War Marine Corps veteran and earned many medals and commendations for his service. Chuck was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsburgh for 30 years. His primary mail route was the Holiday Park area of Plum Borough. He was a proud member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Chuck was a devoted and loving husband and father. In the 1960s and 1970s, he and his wife were foster parents through Catholic Charities to 17 foster children. Chuck's daily actions reflected Christ's teachings. He was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Beaufort and previously was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Plum Borough, PA. Chuck was loved by all who knew him. He never met a stranger and enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, taking walks in his neighborhood and spending time with his family and friends. He will be forever missed. All those who love him look forward to reuniting with him in Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Mary Gloria Ewing of Beaufort, S.C.; four children, Patricia L. Rukavina and her husband Timothy of North Huntingdon, PA; Timothy Charles Ewing and his wife Stephanie of Bethel Park, PA; Ronald Charles Ewing and his wife Desserra of Abingdon, VA; Rose Anna Ewing of Beaufort, S.C.; sister-in-law Shirley Lunz of Cranberry, PA; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
