Elnora Cannick Obituary
March 20, 1943 - July 13, 2025
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Mrs. Elnora Burns Cannick, age 82, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Her journey was marked by grace, resilience, and a deep love for those around her. Mrs. Elnora touched many lives throughout her remarkable years, leaving behind not only cherished memories but also a profound legacy of kindness and strength.
Elnora was born to Mrs. Ruby Dawson Burns and Mr. Lonnie Burns, Sr., in Milan, G.A., in 1943. As a young girl, she was very athletic and quite determined. She played basketball at Central High School in McCrae, GA, graduating in 1962. Elnora went on to attend Savannah State College and graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She also married Leander Cannick, Jr., that same year in 1966. Years later, Elnora obtained her Master's degree in Education from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, S.C., specializing in Special Education. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 59 years, Mr. Leander Cannick, Jr., six children, Mrs. Adrienne Carter( Mr. Richard Carter), Dr. Stephanie Jenkins, Dr. Leander Cannick III ( Dr. Gabrielle Cannick), Mrs. Wanda Ottman, Esq. (Mr. Jacob Ottman), Mrs. Nora Olomu (Dr. Osarenoma Olomu), Mr. Bernard Cannick, as well as 15 grandchildren, two brothers, Mr. Charlie Burns of Milan, G.A., Mr. Roylee Burns, Sr. of Milan, G.A., and one sister, Mrs. Ruby Spann of McDonough, G.A., and a special "sister" niece, Ms. Tonya Burns of Hampton, GA.
Mrs. Elnora Cannick was a member of Queen Chapel A.M.E. Church on Hilton Head Island, S.C. for many years. Mrs. Elnora B. Cannick will be forever remembered by family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be with us forever in spirit and in love.
A memorial service will be held at Queen Chapel A.M.E. Church at 114 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 on July 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. On July 26, 2025, a viewing will be held at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., at House of Prayer, 194 E. Willow Lane, McCrae, GA 31055.
