Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - Homer A. Boynton, 93 of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away on December 26th 2020 at Hilton Head Regional Hospital from COVID. He had lived on Hilton Head Island since 1993.
He was born in Hartford, Connecticut, son of Homer A. Boynton and Emilie L. Fritz Boynton. The Boynton family has a long lineage in America. William and John Boynton arrived at Ipswich, Massachusetts from Yorkshire, England in 1638. Homer A. Boynton was a 9th generation descendant of William Boynton.
He received his early education in West Hartford, Connecticut, graduated from the University of Connecticut, class of 1950, and attended graduate school at the University of Southern California. While at the University of Connecticut he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and a member of Omicron Delta Gamma, an honorary economics fraternity, at the University of Southern California.
He served in the United States Navy in World War II.
He married Alice E. Boynton (nee Powell) on August 26th, 1950 in East Hartford, Connecticut. She predeceased him. They were blessed with three children, Rex, Jeffrey, and Lynne, daughters-in-law Lynn and Karen Boynton and son-in-law Mark Georgevich and eight grandchildren: Blake, Brittany, Brenna, Jared, Carli, Jordan, Alyssa, and Jayce, and great-granddaughter Camryn.
Homer Boynton became a Special Agent with the FBI in 1952 and served in Philadelphia, New York, and Washington. While at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC he held the positions of Chief of Foreign Operations, Director of Public Affairs, and retired in 1980 as Executive Assistant Director for Administration. He joined American Airlines in Dallas, Texas in 1981 as Managing Director of the Audits and Security Department and retired from that position in 1993 and formed his own Aviation Security Consulting Company. He served as Chairman of the International Airline Transportation Association, Chairman of the New York Airports Security Council and was a member of the Security Committee of the National Academy of Sciences.
His love of family and loyalty to friends were hallmarks of his life. He enjoyed travel, reading, cooking, and music, particularly Jazz, and was affiliated with the Jazz Corner restaurant on Hilton Head Island for many years.
He will be interred in the Boynton family plot at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford, Connecticut. A memorial service will be held at a later date on Hilton Head Island and a private family service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.

My sincere condolences to the Boynton family. I was blessed to know Alice and Homer as the hairdresser at BCC and TP. Wonderful people, so kind and caring, I know this has been a shock to all, he will be missed. God Bless.
