Jacqueline Russell Obituary

Jacqueline "Jackie" Wygant Russell Every so often, The world loses a person that is so loving and brilliant that when they're gone those left behind are left feeling a bit emptier inside as if the world's bright hues have turned to muted pastel. That's certainly the case with Jacqueline "Jackie" Wygant Russell, 81, a wonderful Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, who passed away Monday April 12, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. It's hard not to smile when thinking about Jacqueline, even in this time of intense sorrow. She was born February 15, 1929 in Newport,RI. Jacqueline was the 5th child of the late Horace Nelson Wygant and Margaret E. O'Brien-Wygant. She was a graduate of Rogers High School and the Rhode Island Academy of Hairdressing, Providence, RI. She was the Proprietor of Francine's Beauty salon In Newport, RI prior to moving to Beaufort, SC where she has been a resident for over 50 years. Jacqueline met Her soul-mate, William "Bill" C. Russell, and it wasn't long before they were inseparable. They married June 29, 1957. A 54 year romance that never faded. Jacqueline's spirit will live on in her children; Kathryn D. Lindemann (Paul), William R. Russell (Angela), Jane E. Greene (Billy) and Theresa M. Raino (Mike). Blessed with the ability to see the positive side of life, she kept those around her a little more light-hearted than they would have been without her. She was a Jack"ie" of all trades; an accomplished painter in oils and watercolors, wedding cake designer and baker serving many beaufortonians, an avid birder, and enjoyed handcrafting and sewing many items for St. Peter's bazaar over the years. In her free time Jackie also traveled the globe, experiencing many different cultures and traditions with her husband at her side. Jackie was also a member of the following organizations; St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Peter's Women's Club, Navy Wives Club, Navy Bowling League, the Brenda Club, Columbiettes and the Beaufort Art Association. She was also named a Paul Harris Fellow. Jacqueline enjoyed watching her Grandchildren's activities, and above all, was very proud of both her children and grandchildren. She retired from the South Carolina Job Security Commission with the goal of spending more time with her family and friends. Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Catherine "Dolly" E. Wygant, Kenneth Wygant and Dudley Wygant all of Newport, RI. Gerald Wygant of West Palm Beach, FL, Louise Wygant-Holden of Hyannis Port,MA and her grandson, William T. Russell of Beaufort. She is further survived by her husband, children, and grandchildren: Billy D. Greene III, Kristin M. Greene, Jacqueline A. Raino and Roman W. Russell. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home with a Rosary Recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with burial in the Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Mrs. Russell's memory to St. Peter's Catholic Church 70 Lady's Island Drive, Beaufort, SC 29907. A moment lasts all of a second, but the memory lives on forever and forever you will stay in our minds - Meme we love you.

I was very sorry to hear about your loss. I will always remember your great birthday parties that your mouther did for you and themed cakes like the "strawberry" cake. She was a very talented and kind mom.
