Janet Birk Obituary

Janet D. Birk Janet Laing (Davidson) Birk, 82, of Hilton Head Plantation died Tuesday, February 9th in Hilton Head. She was a native of Albany and Delmar, NY and moved to Hilton Head Island in 1989 from Grosse Pointe, MI. She received her RN Degree from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. After several years in nursing, she chose to devote her life to being a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and community volunteer. Mrs. Birk was married to the late Dr. Robert E. Birk for 59 years. She is survived by her children David E. Birk (Fumi) of Tampa, FL, James M. Birk (Taiko) of Guam, Patricia J. Birk of Tolono, IL, Thomas S. Birk of Coral Gables, FL and Susan M. Schaafsma (Daniel) of Zeeland, MI; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister Helen DeVere, and brother Robert Davidson. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, February 21 at Providence Presbyterian Church, 171 Cordillo Parkway. The family suggests that those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910; Providence Presbyterian Church, 171 Cordillo Parkway, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928; or the American Cancer Society, 59 Pope Avenue #101, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is making arrangements.
