John Cashen Obituary

Dr. John J. Cashen, D.M.D., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected dentist, passed away peacefully at his home on Dataw Island, South Carolina, on September 16, 2025. He was 78, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Dover, New Jersey, John was the eldest child of Anna and Vincent Cashen. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania and practiced in Chester, NJ, for over 30 years. He was known for his clinical excellence, compassion, and integrity, and was honored as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry.

John loved the outdoors and found joy in sailing, boating, and saltwater fishing-especially in Nantucket. He was also an avid sportsman who cherished his time hunting and fishing at Green Swamp. A licensed U.S. Merchant Marine Master, he brought precision and passion to all pursuits.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Josephine; children, Dr. David Cashen and Claire Ventura; sister, Mary Purcell; and five grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held on October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaufort, SC.
