Bluffton, South Carolina - John McKinlay, III, a native of Chicago, IL, and a longtime resident of the Lowcountry of South Carolina for over 35 years, passed away after a brief illness.

John served in the infantry of the United States Marine Corps during World War II, bravely fighting in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Kwajalein, and Okinawa. His service to his country was a defining part of his life and he carried those principals and disciplines with him until the end.

He is survived by his wife, Sue McKinlay; his sons, John Thomas McKinlay (Christine) and David McKinlay; and his cherished grandsons, McKinlay Scott Johnson, Duncan McKinlay, William Fuller Johnson, and Connor McKinlay. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Elizabeth Capin.

A private graveside service and interment will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery, in keeping with the family's wishes.

Such a wonderful memory reflecting back on our days together as we learned the Bible together at our home on Bubbling Creek with Joe Coggeshall leading us. John certainly completed a full life. Bless you Sue for taking good care of John all these years.
