Beaufort, South Carolina - John Larry Sutcliffe, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 surrounded by loved ones.
Born March 16, 1946 in Orangeburg, SC, Larry was the eldest son of the late Lowman and Katherine Sutcliffe.
His passion in life was horses, and he was an active member of the Beaufort Bridle & Saddle Club, founded by his parents. He owned D&L Quarter Horses and Lazy S Stables where he trained horses and taught people of all ages to ride. Larry also co-owned Beaufort Sport Cycle and Sutcliffe Pools with his brothers. After retirement from the pool industry, he enjoyed fishing, having also been a member of the Beaufort Sport Fishing & Diving Club.
Larry was predeceased by his daughter, Leila Katherine Sutcliffe, parents Lowman & Katherine Sutcliffe, and brother Danny Sutcliffe. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lee Sutcliffe; son John (Carrie) Sutcliffe; grandchildren Kaitlin & Aaron Sutcliffe; his beloved dog, Georgia; sister-in-law Deborah Sutcliffe; brother Jerry (Barbara) Sutcliffe; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Beaufort Water Search and Rescue which is a 501(c)(3) at 817 Paris Avenue, Port Royal, SC 29935.
A visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. A graveside service will begin at noon in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
