Jules S. Tarlow

Jules (Jack) S. Tarlow Jules S. "Jack" Tarlow, 88, died on September 12, 2013 at his home in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Born in Hartford, CT to the late Julius Marcus Tarlow and Ruth Hess Tarlow, Jack was raised in West Harford and educated at Hall High School, the University of Connecticut and Boston University School of Law. During World War II, he served as a US Navy aviator in the Pacific campaign in the Aleutian Islands, having enlisted shortly after Pearl Harbor.Upon Graduating from law school in 1950, Jack began a long and successful career as an attorney, with an expertise in real estate law. His practice experience included working as an associate in a small Hartford-based firm, co-founding and serving as a partner at Tarlow, Poulos and Barry in Hartford, and co-founding and serving as a partner at Tarlow, Levy, Mandell & Kostin PC, which subsequently became Tarlow, Levy, Droney, the firm from which Jack retired in 1985. He also served as in house counsel for Diversified Equities, a West Hartford-based company that developed several nursing home properties in the Hartford area.A longtime resident of West Hartford, Jack was committed to and active in his community. He served for three terms on the WestHartford Town Council, including a stint as minority leader, and spent several years as an officer of the West Hartford Lions Club. An avid and highly proficient skier, ski instructor and sailor, Jack spent his retirement years in Steamboat Springs, Durango, and Telluride, Colorado, where he enthusiastically hit the slopes until he was well into his 80's, and Hilton Head, South Carolina, where he pursued his passion for sailing, was active in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, and obtained his USCG captain's license, which qualified him to operate vessels weighing up to ten tons. Jack also was a lifelong dog lover.Jack will be remembered for his ever-present smile. he lived his life with great enthusiasm for his family, his career, his community and his many adventures - on land and at sea. In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, Rosalind Davidson Tarlow, Jack is survived by his sister Constance Neiditch, of Hilton Head, and four children: Kim Stone(and her husband, Ken) of Crested Butte, Colorado; Jane Tarlow of Breckenridge, Colorado; Attorney John "Buzz" Tarlow(and his wife, Holly) of Bozeman, Montana; and Attorney Wendy Tarlow(and her husband, James Tantillo) of Trumansburg, New York. He is also survived by four wonderful grandchildren - Jed Tarlow, 22, Sarajane Tarlow, 26, Sophia Tantillo, 14, and Julia Tantillo, 16 - and many nieces and nephews. A private ceremony honoring Jack was held on September 19, 2013, at which his family and many of the friends he and Roz made in Hilton Head shared fond memories.
