Louis Jaffe Obituary

Louis M. Jaffe of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the age of 85. Born February 15, 1929 in Evanston, Illinois to Lawson and Ethel Jaffe. Lou made a lasting impact on several communities.  At age 19 he owned Mayors Jewelry in Dayton, Ohio until his career path caused him to change the landscape in Richmond, Indiana as a real estate developer.  He was a visionary who could see a dirt field and imagine it alive with people; shops and restaurants then make it all happen. Moving to Hilton Head Island in January 1981, Lou transformed almost every beachfront on the island with magnificent new homes.  He also impacted commercial real estate including the JADE building on William Hilton Parkway. As the owner of Fish Haul Plantation he contributed land and funds to the first archeological dig that uncovered Mitchellville and artifacts from Indian tribes dating back to the 1700's.  He was the anonymous donor of all those artifacts discovered in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Diana Jaffe, children Leslie Marantz and her husband Mitchell of Philadelphia; Marc Jaffe and his wife, Becky of Indianapolis, Indiana; Susan Miller and her husband Gary of Lutz, Florida, Scott Jaffe of Tampa, Florida; Lara Jaffe Hart and her husband Scott Hart of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and Jennifer Jaffe of West Palm Beach. Florida. 11 grandchildren, Cameron Marantz, Lauren Marantz, Sara Jaffe Berman and her husband Michael, Melissa Jaffe, Rossi Jaffe, Lawson Jaffe, Nicole Jaffe, Annah Jaffe-Taylor, Ella Jaffe-Taylor, Olivia Jaffe-Taylor and AJ Jaffe. One great-grandchild, June Berman. 3 Siblings, Loretta Weber of Dayton Ohio, Larry Jaffe of Dayton, Ohio and Linda Peterson and her husband Pete from Issaquah, Washington. A funeral service will be held Sunday May 4th at 1:00 PM at St. Luke's Church, 50 Pope Ave, Hilton Head Island, officiated by Reverend Greg Kronz, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 PM at Six Oaks Memorial Park, 175 Greenwood Dr, Hilton Head Island officiated by Rabbi Brad Bloom. Donations may be made to Hospice Savannah for their great care: P.O. Box 13190 Savannah, GA 31416. Flowers may be delivered to The Island Funeral Home. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. www.theislandfuneralhome.com.
