Paul Grier Obituary
February 16, 1933 - April 25, 2025
Greenville, South Carolina - Paul Livingston Grier, age 92, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on April 25, 2025. Formerly a longtime resident of Hilton Head, Paul was born on February 16, 1933, in Clover, South Carolina, to Margaret Nell Hambright and Paul Livingston Grier, who both predeceased him.
Paul graduated from Clover High School before attending the University of South Carolina, where he was an active member of ROTC. As a young man, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, setting the foundation for a life marked by integrity, leadership, and service. After college, Paul proudly served in the United States Navy, spending two years aboard the USS Intrepid.
Paul enjoyed a long and successful career in textile sales, but his true passions were found outside of work. He was a man of fierce loyalty to his family, his friends, his country, and most of all, to his faith. A devoted Christian, Paul's love for the Lord guided every aspect of his life. He was a longtime and faithful member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head, where he served his community with steadfast dedication and a joyful spirit.
Together with his beloved wife Jane Bethia Reid Grier, to whom he was married for 66 years, Paul traveled the world, visiting 51 countries across six continents. Their adventures reflected their shared curiosity, gratitude, and love for life.
Paul was proud of his heritage and was an active member of the South Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, serving a term as President. His commitment to honoring the past and upholding the values he cherished was evident in every chapter of his life.
In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Paul was predeceased by his son, William David Grier. He is survived by his loving daughter-in-law, Maria Courtney Grier; his three grandchildren: Reid Grier and his wife Chandler, Courtney Grier and her fiancé Evan, and Alexander Grier and his fiancée Victoria; and two great-granddaughters, Eva Frances Grier and Margaret Jane Grier.
A memorial service celebrating Paul's life and faith will be held at Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
