St. Helena Island, South Carolina - It is with great sadness that the family of Randal Whitla Brown announce his passing on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at his home at the age of 77.

Randal will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Daphne, of 13 Kings Square, St. Helena island, SC 29920, his son Ross Allen Brown of Seattle, his brother Brian Thomas Brown of Malahide, Ireland and his nieces Linda, Karen, Vanessa and Clodagh, and his in-laws Sylvia and Trevor Speidel and nieces Nicola and Tracey.

Randal was predeceased by his daughter Susanna Kerry Brown of Salisbury, NC, his father Herbert Brown and mother Josephine Brown of Portadown, Northern Ireland.

Randal was educated at Trinity College, Dublin where he obtained a science degree. He started his business career with Imperial Chemical Industries in Northern Ireland. He emigrated to the USA in 1976 and became an American citizen five years later. He began a career with Fiber Industries Inc in Salisbury, NC. Upon retirement from Mobius Imaging, MA, in 2013 he moved from Rhode Island to Beaufort, SC.

He was an avid do-it-yourselfer, a gardener and car maintenance buff. He liked to get things done the right way and to work as part of a team to do practical projects. He was a great dog lover and enjoyed many walks with his dog Brady on Bermuda Bluff Island. He led a maintenance team at Hunting Island, helping to build a playground and refurbish the Nature Center. Randal was a fishing and boating enthusiast and he had a passion for steam engines which he followed when in Ireland. He maintained strong links with his extended Irish family and had weekly discussions with them about his great interest in English soccer.

A Celebration of Randal's life will be held at Bermuda Bluff Island Clubhouse, St. Helena Island, at a later date.
