I learned a lot from Rich back in the early 1990's when we worked together @ River Dell. He was the kind of guy who you wanted in your corner. He would be defined as: Salt of the Earth, if you were to describe him to someone who didn't know him.

Richard was the best, both as a teacher and principal. I taught 8th grade science and he always visited our class curious about our experiments and students's involvement in the activities. He even volunteering to act as Wilhelm Tell and proudly placed the apple on his head waiting for the students to try to hit the apple with fiberglass balls - it did not work: Laws of Physics were against it. We all had lots of fun.

We(I, my husband and few other colleagues from River Dell accompanied Richard on a rip to Paris, his beloved city). He led us into adventures we did not anticipated. He knew the city and the best restaurants to go to.
We will miss him a lot - he represented the best of River Dell. We were lucky to work with him and learn from him.
He is finally in peace, but not forgotten..

Richard was the best. When I was teaching Science in the 8th grade, he always strolled into the classroom and participated in any experiment/ demonstration we were involved in, including playing William Tell, proudly placing an apple on his head and stoically waiting for the styrofoam ball to hit the apple. The students were excited an competed who will be able to hit the apple. Obviously, they could not as it was against the laws of Physics. He never disappointed us and the students. He was always ready for adventures and his love of traveling was obvious when few of us joined him on a trip to France. He will always be remembered as on of the most involved principals/ teachers/ and colleague. I carry his memory in my heart. He will be certainly be missed and River Dell lost some of our best. My condolescense for the family and let his memory carry us forward.
Yael Sears.

One of the great neighbors and dear friends of all time!!! I still see him in his apron coming down the road with his wheel barrel full of goodies for our wedding!!! Founding member of the Alphonse and Gaston firewood brigade!

Rich was a wonderful colleague when we taught at River Dell. He went on to become an inspirational leader as principal of middle school. I have so many wonderful memories of Rich. Many happy ones from the times we lead student groups and a wonderful teacher group to Paris. Sending love and strength to Chris and Matt and Sarah.
