Mr. Thomas James CarlsonMT. PLEASANT - Mr. Thomas James Carlson, 70, husband of the late Janet Melissa Carlson, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Bayfield, WI. Mr. Carlson was born June 20, 1943 in Buffalo New York, the son of the late Walter Carlson and Genevieve Larson Carlson. Tom graduated from Prospect High School, IL before graduating from North Park Univ in Chicago with a BA in Philosophy in June 1966. In 1963, while still in school, he started his 50 year construction career as Field Supervisor with Milburn Brothers and while working as a Project Manager, Tom pursued a Master in Philosophy at DePaul Univ, Chicago, IL. In 1974 when he co-founded Wilbur, Carlson & Co. in Aspen, Colorado, and ultimately to President & CEO of Calibogue Construction that he co-founded on Hilton Head, SC in 1984. Tom & Janet married in October 1996 in Hopetown, Abaco, Bahamas at St. James Methodist Church. They traveled extensively together between their homes in SC, NC, WI & the Bahamas. One of their recent passions included restoring a circa 1883 Andrew Tate Building and Dr. Pickett's home in Bayfield, WI. Survivors include his 3 sons, Brett Carlson, Jay Byerly and Ted Byerly all of Charleston, SC; and his 2 brothers: David Carlson and his wife Celia Carlson of Bend, OR. and Mark Carlson and his wife Elaine Carlson of Inverness, IL. Graveside service will be at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens on Saturday, August 24, 2012, at 1:00 PM. Immediately following the service, friends, family and all who knew Tom are invited to a celebration of Tom's life at 646 Pawley Avenue, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29486 until 5PM.
