Todd Andrew Pence
August 1, 1961 - July 20, 2024
New Smyrna, Florida - Todd Andrew Pence, took his last breath on July 20, 2024 at 8:25 p.m. and joined our Lord and Savior. Todd fought an awful disease that snuck up on him by surprise. He fought a strong battle until the very end, never showing weakness or uncertainty.
Todd Andrew Pence was born on August 1, 1961, to the late Dorothy and Elzie Pence in Oceanside, California. However, as a child he resided in Germantown, Ohio with his brothers Scott, Brian and Craig Pence.
Todd is survived by his wife, Judy Pence of New Smyrna, Florida. Todd and Judy both have children from previous marriages. Adam (Stephanie) Pence, Lauren (Shane) Cunningham, Sarah (Robert) Whitfield, Robert Miller, and Scott Miller, who tragically passed away in 2022. Scott and Todd are together again and watching over their family.
Todd was a devoted grandfather to Kennedy and Kya Whitfield; Aubrey and Ava Miller; and Elin, Myles, and Pierce Cunningham. Todd wanted nothing more than to spend time with his grandbabies.
Todd and Judy were married for 20 years. They were best friends and soul mates. Together they created a life that most people only dream of. Todd and Judy shared a love for traveling, adventure and food. Todd always told his family and friends, "life is too short to not do what you enjoy." He lived it the best way with Judy.
Todd served as a Captain in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from 1983-1986. After serving in the Army, Todd took a position as General Manager at Centel Cellular, which led to him being promoted to Director of Engineering and Network Operations at Sprint Cellular (1987-1995). From there Todd moved to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and raised his family. He served as Vice President of Sales at Hargray Communications from 1997-2009. Todd's leadership abilities, communication skills and work ethic were inspirational to his colleagues and contributed to several successful years at Hargray, culminating in a lucrative monetary buyout of the company.
Despite his demanding work schedule, Todd was dedicated to the youth of Hilton Head Island and volunteered tirelessly with the Island's youth sports programs, which created opportunities for countless children. Todd coached his son's football team and was a very successful fundraiser for the football program. Through Todd's efforts, Hargray donated much needed equipment funding for the Hilton Head High School Cheerleading Team. Todd also played a large role in Hargray's gracious donation to the University of South Carolina at Beaufort, which led the university to put Hargray's name on a campus building. None of Todd's efforts were for personal recognition. It was all out of love and support for his community.
Hilton Head wasn't the only place where Todd left an everlasting mark.
After his children grew up, Todd took his knowledge and service to Memphis, Tennessee, as Director of Business Services for Comcast. Todd moved on to Silver Star Communications in Thayne, Wyoming, as Director of Sales and Customer Service from 2014-2018. Todd came out of retirement in 2024 for his love of the telecommunications industry and took a position as the Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Silver Star Communication in Meridian, Idaho. Sadly, his revived career was cut short.
Todd was an extraordinary businessman, but his favorite role was being a husband, father and a grandfather. He also had a passion for several hobbies like music, cooking, working out, running 5K's, reading about history, gardening, and supporting his country. Todd always wanted to help others find their passion and he never judged others...he always accepted them for who they are. He embraced challenges and never gave into fear. He was an unconventional man and did things "his way." There will never be another Todd Pence.
The family has planned a celebration of Todd's life in an "unconventional way."
While his family, friends and community will forever miss his voice and presence here on this earth, we know we will carry him with us daily in our lives as we remember the man he was to each of us and the memories he left in our hearts.
Todd's memorial service will be held at the Beach House Resort in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Due to the family's longstanding connection with and dedication to the Island, the Beach House Resort has graciously reserved rooms for out-of-town guests. The service will take place in the beautiful Sky Room of the resort on September 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
