Barbara Concannon Obituary

Barbara (Grady) Concannon, 93
1932 - 2025
Swampscott - Barbara (Grady) Concannon, age 93, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent P. Concannon.
Born and raised in Portland, ME, Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Malloy) Grady. She made her home in Swampscott for many years, where she built a life filled with faith, family, community service and friendship.
A woman of deep faith, Barbara was a devoted and longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Swampscott where she volunteered in many capacities. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to everyone around her. She loved to bake, and friends near and far eagerly looked forward to her delicious homemade treats, which she shared generously. She was also an accomplished knitter and created prayer squares and infant hats to donate to the local hospitals.
Above all, Barbara's greatest joy was her expanding family. She is survived by her five children: Kevin (Margo) Concannon, Mary (Greg) Miller, Cathy (David) Kalpin, Carol (Chris) Hawthorne, and Stephanie (John) Coletti. She was the proud grandmother of Sean and Brandon Concannon, Matthew and Stephanie Miller, Jennifer (Nick) Newhall, Katelyn (Luke) Bradley, Michael (Meaghan) Kalpin, Christopher (Kit) Kalpin, Emily (Nick) Hawthorne, James Hawthorne, Megan Coletti, and Paul (fiancée Marykate) Coletti. Her love extended to her eight great-grandchildren: John, Jordan, McKenna, Rory, Izzy, Connor, Max, and Jayce. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret Labbe and Peter Grady.
Barbara's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff of Pingree 5 at Salem Hospital for the compassionate care they provided in her final days.
Service Information: Visiting hours will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 4–7PM at the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Rt. 1A), Lynn. Her funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 10AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott, with burial to follow in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.

My sincere sympathy to the Concannon family,
Barbara was a lovely lady and we had many nice talks at daily mass. Barbara and Vinny were devoted to St John's as witnessed by thier active participation in many areas. May you find comfort in knowing Barbara is now resting peacefully in the hands of our Lord.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Concannon family. Holy Mass will be celebrated in Lauderdale By The Sea for the repose of Barbara´s marvelous soul and for the happy reunion with her beloved Vin. As fellow members of St. John´s "Dawn Patrol" over many years, we began each day together worshipping our Lord and Savior and, in the process, became fast friends. Rest peacefully dear Barbara.
