Evangelos N. Ziavras

LYNN ? Evangelos N. Ziavras , age 84, of Lynn , died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at the Aberjona Nursing Home in Winchester. He was the husband of Athina (Kalantzis) Ziavras, and the son of the late Nikolaos and Vasiliki (Gianaris) Ziavras. Born in Perivolia, Sparta, Greece, on April 15, 1931. He was a shoemaker in Greece and when he came to the United States in 1971, he worked for many years as an upholsterer. He was a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn. He passed along his favorite pastimes to his grandchildren such as chess and backgammon. He was constantly working in and around the house, and could often be found making wine or in his garden. He loved walking along the beach and listening to the waves at night. He instilled his strong family values to his children and grandchildren and will be missed by all. Besides his wife Athina, he is survived by his son, Nickolas Ziavras and his late wife Helen (Sougarides) Ziavras of Melrose; his daughter, Vicky Nikolopoulos of North Reading; his three grandchildren, Evan and Athena Ziavras and Elias Nikolopoulos; sisters, Anastasia and her late husband Dimitrios of Montreal, Amalia Mavroidakos and her late husband Panagiotis of Montreal, and the late Demetra Neofotistos and her husband Stavros Neofotistos of Montreal. He was the brother of the late George Ziavras and his wife Athina Ziavras of Montreal. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Service information: His funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 29 at 11 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery , Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Sunday, Feb. 28 from 3-7 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home , 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn.
